Single Sign-On (SSO)

Single sign-on (SSO) is a method of authentication that enables users to access various applications and systems with just one set of login credentials. By consolidating the authentication process, SSO removes the necessity for users to remember different passwords for each service, thereby improving user convenience and enhancing overall security. This method is commonly adopted in corporate settings to facilitate access to a range of internal and cloud-based tools.

The implementation of SSO provides considerable benefits for both users and the organization. It simplifies workflows, strengthens security, and lessens the administrative load on IT departments, resulting in broad enhancements.

SSO is a flexible solution frequently utilized in business environments to oversee user access across numerous applications. It makes authentication easier for employees, particularly for remote workers who require smooth access to various cloud services and internal systems.

Although SSO and FIM are often used in conjunction, they have different roles in the management of digital identities and access control.

While SSO improves convenience, it also concentrates risk, creating a single point of vulnerability. If an attacker gains access to a user's single set of credentials, they can infiltrate all associated applications. This makes the SSO login a prime target for phishing schemes and other types of credential theft.
